Information For professionals Professional events Tinnitus Adviser Training - SHEFFIELD Sheffield - 21-22nd February A key objective of the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) is to, ‘Encourage and promote the provision of sufficiently trained people for the management/treatment of those with tinnitus.’ The internationally recognised Tinnitus Adviser Training allows us to achieve this by offering a counselling-based model of support for use in a range of settings with tinnitus patients/clients.Delivered by an experienced team and led by a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and Registered Psychotherapist, the course aims to build on existing experiences to enable participants to become better equipped to help and support people with tinnitus. The Tinnitus Adviser Training offered by the BTA is the only course of its type in the UK and is open to people from all sectors of the tinnitus community. The Aims of the adviser training is to raise participants’ awareness and increase their understanding of the use of counselling skills and the counselling process, with a focus on the process of adjustment to living with tinnitus to provide an opportunity to practise counselling skills to evaluate personal strengths, concerns and issues when working with tinnitus patients/clients to increase participants’ understanding of the medical background to the condition of tinnitus, and introduce them to some of the practical management aids available at present The training consists of input on basic counselling and listening skills coupled with how to respond appropriately to the many enquiries that are received. There is also input on tinnitus as a medical condition and the audiological services available, so that you have knowledge to share with the people you support. Who should attendWe welcome professionals such as hearing therapists, audiologists, hearing aid dispensers, support group facilitators etc. as well as those working in a social work, voluntary or community setting. Medical session This session is run by two experienced tinnitus professionals drawn from a bank of clinicians and research scientists. The aim is to allow course delegates to ask any questions they may have about any aspect of tinnitus or hyperacusis, and by using two professionals, we aim to demonstrate the differences of opinion that sometimes exist in this complex field. Booking Conditions Courses must be paid for in full 10 working days before the start of the course. If a place is reserved by email or telephone, we will hold it upon receipt of a booking form. Places can be held whilst payment is arranged but priority will be given to enquiries where payment is confirmed and in place. No places are confirmed until a payment has been received. In the event of a cancellation, wherever possible, we will transfer to the next available course less any monies lost in payment to venues for your place. If cancellation requires a refund then a full refund will be available if we are able to fill the unallocated place; in the unlikely event of the place not being filled we will refund the full amount less any monies lost in payment to venues, administration and materials. In the event of a cancellation less than 48 hours before a course, or a no-show for a course there are no options for refund or transfer to an alternate date.
