My name is Aleksandra, I’m 36 years old. Originally I come from a small town in Poland called Barczewo. I’m a happy single mum of a 10 year old girl called Emily. I graduated from the University of Warmia and Masuria in Poland and became an Environmental Protection Engineer.

After my studies, I started work in City Hall as an Inspector of Environmental Protection in the Building Department. My job was very interesting but I was not completely satisfied. I knew that I needed to change something in my life so I decided to move to Sheffield where some of my family live.

At the moment I’m working as a Quality Technician in a food manufacturers in Sheffield. I definitely don’t feel good there and I know that this job is not for me. I needed something which would motivate me and give me more possibilities to move on with my career. That’s why I decided to get some experience and start volunteering.

I have always wanted to help people, and being a volunteer helps me do what is really important to me, and I stay motivated all the time and try to be helpful to everybody.

I heard about the BTA from my friend Irina, who was a volunteer at the BTA a few years ago. She told me about the opportunities and benefits of being a volunteer.

I wanted to learn about tinnitus and be a part of an incredible team which supports people with tinnitus. My grandma suffered from tinnitus and that time I didn’t know how to help her.

Sometimes we are very busy in the office but I love this job! The most amazing thing is the atmosphere and the fantastic people who are extremely happy to help if something seems to be difficult. I always feel welcomed and appreciated.

My volunteering has helped me to be a more confident person. I have learned a lot and I have improved my English and administration skills. I would like to finish my English course and start another one in Business Administration.

I would like to thank all the BTA staff for all their support, now I feel like I can do more and I am not afraid to try.

Get involved!
