Richard Hartwell has recently regained his love of cycling and is taking on the Prudential RideLondon 100 bike ride for the BTA. Here's his story behind why he's getting involved.

"I was a keen cyclist in my youth, completing a 110 mile ride from Colchester, Essex to Boston, Lincolnshire to raise money for Colchester United football club way back in 1992. I drifted away from cycling as I grew older but found my cycling mojo again during a period of unemployment back in 2009. Since then my cycling levels have been up and down over the years but in the last couple of years, having taken part in at least one medium length ride per year, I thought it was time to do more. Having seen a notification on social media that my friend Stuart had signed up for Ride London I thought, "Why not?"!

From there we have now signed up for some local rides which will help increase our mileage and test our training in the build up to Ride London.

These are:

  • Ride for Helen, 30 miles on 19 May
  • Tour of the Dengie, 82km on 2 June and the
  • Essex Castle ride, 75 miles on 20 July.

As a long time sufferer of tinnitus, and having already signed up to support British Tinnitus for Ride London, I have decided to spread my fund raising for them over all four rides."
