Offering tinnitus services

Tinnitus has not been identified by the British Academy of Audiology (BAA) as either an essential or urgent activity, however, offering a tinnitus service is still possible. Providing a remote service and signposting to the online resources available will help alleviate anxiety related to tinnitus for many, particularly at this difficult time.

We have co-authored a paper with the BAA to provide guidance on how to offer a tinnitus service during the Covid-19 pandemic.

BTA resources

The BTA remains open and we are here to offer support to people living with tinnitus. So, please do continue to signpost to our website and services.

Helpline

Our helpline remains open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm:

Take on Tinnitus

Our online resource takeontinnitus.co.uk has been designed for people who are new to tinnitus.

Experiencing tinnitus for the first time can be frightening and it’s difficult to know how to help manage it effectively. Take on Tinnitus guides patients through the condition and helps identify simple strategies to keep it under control.

It includes an initial taster session followed by seven modules. Each module takes just 10-15 minutes and includes a range of interactive exercises, video clips and self-tests.

Online support groups

Hearing from others living with tinnitus and getting peer-to-peer support can be a really important element of learning to manage tinnitus, so we're piloting online tinnitus support groups.

In order to participate, patients will need access to the internet and a device that has a camera e.g. a webcam or smartphone. We will be using Zoom for the online meetings.

Places can be booked via Eventbrite here

CPD opportunities

We have had to take the decision to postpone a number of our professional training courses as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, however, we are reviewing how we can deliver some tinnitus training online. If you would like to hear about future online training opportunities, please email [email protected] to express interest. In the meantime, please do take a look at takeontinnitus.co.uk

Online Journal Club

We're launching a brand new monthly Online Journal Club, free of charge, to support audiologists and hearing care professionals with their CPD during these especially challenging times.

Each month, we'll invite a different guest speaker to select and present a tinnitus-related paper for your discussion and debate – chaired by David Stockdale, Chief Executive of the BTA. The club will run on the third Thursday of the month.
