About the group

A group for people in the Marlow / Farnham Common area run by local volunteer Gilly Wright who is passionate about helping people with tinnitus and hearing problems. With the support of her boss at Help in Hearing, Gilly plans to hold evening meetings initially but would be happy to consider Saturday mornings if there is demand. The group will also alternate between Marlow and Farnham Common venues.

2019 Meetings             

  • Tuesday 08 January, 6:30 - 8.30pm. 
    The Reflexology Experience: Claire Cogan from Creating Calm aims to support people to achieve some calm and relaxation in their lives using tools of reflexology and essential oils. 

  • Tuesday 05 February, 6:30 - 8.30pm. 
    Improve Your Sleep: Many people with tinnitus struggle to get a good night's sleep. We have invited life coach Mary Nash from Marlow based "Bloom with Mary" to run a workshop on lifechanging strategies for getting a better nights sleep. 

  • Tuesday 12 March, 6pm - 7.30pm
    Spring Social: An opportunity to meet with other members of the group for an informal chat about the impact of tinnitus and ideas of how to try to manage it.

  • Tuesday 16 April, Refreshments 6pm, Talk 6.30pm - 8pm
    An Introduction to Acupuncture: Dr Lucy Liu from The Marlow Clinic has been practicing acupuncture for over 25 years and comes from a family of Chinese traditional doctors. Dr Liu will give an introduction to Acupuncture and discuss whether treatment may be able to reduce the loudness and intrusiveness of tinnitus.

    Person Centered Identity Therapy: A talk by Dr Alexandra Smith an integrative Psychotherapist who specialises in Identity Therapy which utilises both the mind and body in the healing process, to promote and enhance self-development, awareness and well-being.  Alexandra has her own practice in Marlow and also runs clinics with My Specialist GP.

      Venue:  The Thames Room, Liston Hall, Chapel Street, Marlow SL7 1DD
      Art, Hearing & Tinnitus Workshop: Teaching Artist Debbie Perry (also member of the Tinnitus Support Group), will be running a fun art workshop with all materials provided and no experience necessary. We will be using a variety of art materials to explore how art can be used in a positive way to help us accept our tinnitus and distract us from unwanted sounds. This will also be an opportunity to discuss and explore with others your tinnitus experience by working in small groups. Places are limited to 12 so must be booked in advance.

    • Tuesday 17 September - Refreshments 6pm, Talk 6.30 - 8pm
      Everyone is welcome to bring and share their tinnitus story to this event. All the membrs of the group have had different experiences and this is an opportunity to exchange ideas of how to manage tinnitus and to hear all about the varied journeys and pathways that our members have taken.

    • Tuesday 15 October - Refreshments 6pm, Talk 6.30 - 8pm
      A talk on the benefits of Reiki and essential oils by Debbie Lawrence, a master Reiki teacher who practices at the Holistic Therapy Centre in Marlow. Debbie has personal experience of Tinnitus. She runs monthly Reiki development & meditation groups and also works as an Essential Oil Educator.

      Mindfulness and Wellbeing
      Gayle Creasey, an experienced mindfulness and self-compassion trainer from Resilient Living will be talking about the simple, practical skills needed to help groups and individuals reduce the impact of stress and suffering and improve emotional resilience and well-being.  Gayle is also a qualified and experienced psychotherapist working with adults, couples and children.

      Guest Speakers: Selma Becker and Kevin Jeffery, audiologists from Help in Hearing talking about tinnitus management and suitable hearing aids for tinnitus sufferers
    • Monday 19 March, 6.30-8.30pm
      Guest Speaker: Mr Chris Aldren, a consultant ENT surgeon working at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough and the Princess Margaret Hospital, Windsor. He will be giving a talk on tinnitus and general ear conditions
    • Saturday 7 April, 10.30am - midday
      A Tai Chi taster session with Karen Pounds. Karen has over 20 years' experience teaching Tai Chi and Qigoing and is also a Mindfulness Meditation Facilitator and registered Clinical Hypnotherapist. Tai Chi and Qigoing are slow movement exercise systems which promote healing and vitality to improve balance, coordination and strength

      Lipreading Demonstration: a lipreading taster session with Judy Perry, a qualified lipreading teacher who runs classes in Buckinghamshire
    • Wednesday 5 June, 6.30 - 8.30pm
      Can Hypnotherapy help Tinnitus?: Bret Freeman (www.abrighteryou.co.uk), a master hypnotherapist who has helped people all over the world, demonstrates how hypnotherapy works
    • Monday 15 October, 6.30 - 8.30pm (Doors open for coffee and chat at 6pm). 
      An Introduction to Mindfulness: A workshop on mindfulness. A recent survey has shown how effective mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MCBT) can be. 
    • Monday 12 November, 6.30 - 8.30pm (Doors open for coffee and chat at 6pm). 
      A Positive Tinnitus Story: A talk by Julian Cowan Hill, a Craniosacral Therapist and author of "A Positive Tinnitus Story"; "Tinnitus From Tyrant to Friend"; and "The Long Tide to Silence".  
    • Tuesday 11 December, 6 - 7.30pm. 
      Mulled Wine & Mince Pies Christmas Social Evening: Please join us for mulled wine and mince pies to celebrate the festive season and meet with members of the group.
