In this blog, Emily Broomhead, Campaign's Manager for the BTA, says a big thank you to everyone who has been involved, and made it so successful.

Tinnitus Week 2018 has been pretty amazing. The interaction on social media has been wonderful, especially for the Thunderclap which has been beyond our wildest hopes and dreams. We reached over 2.6 Million people on Friday 9 February which is just staggering.

We were delighted to send out lots of information packs across the UK, and it was wonderful to see all the events being held.

Working internationally this year has meant we have been able to reach even more people. Massive thanks go to colleagues at Tinnitus Hub, Tinnitus Research Initiative and the American Tinnitus Association and every organisation who got involved across the world.

The new Tinnitus Week website www.tinnitusweek.com has been an excellent initiative showing the support for people with tinnitus across the world. We hope to go from strength to strength with this in 2019, getting even more organisations involved.

We’ve had the most amazing support from three young people, Amy, Izzy and George, and their families, who have each been brave enough to do media interviews and speak out about how the condition affects them. In doing so, we hope this will help other young people who might not know what tinnitus is or how to explain it to their parents, friends and teachers. Massive thanks to their parents and teachers for their support.

New plans

Moving forward we at the BTA, are now raising funds so that we bring our children’s information booklets to life, so they can reach a new audience of children on social media channels such as YouTube. We hope to be able to work towards making sure that no child with tinnitus feels they are alone. Full details on the appeal can be found at www.tinnitus.org.uk/Appeal/children-with-tinnitus

Huge thanks to each and every person who has shared the story, their knowledge and their experience, you’ve enabled us to bring Tinnitus week to life. Sharing your stories and opinions really has meant we can include everyone in the conversation, raising much needed awareness of tinnitus.

I think it’s been amazing and we are so grateful to everyone who has shown their support for the campaign, because without you, we really couldn’t do it.
