About our work Tinnitus Awareness Week 2017 Tinnitus Awareness Week (TAW) is an annual event which is taking place from 6-12 February. Activity will be based around the campaign ‘Together for Tinnitus’ which is intended to generate discussion about tinnitus and raise awareness of the work being carried out and support provided by the British Tinnitus Association and other services across the UK. We will be raising awareness amongst GPs about the condition and the treatment options available, so they feel confident to support patients who are experiencing this often distressing and debilitating condition. During the week, we will be launching our official ‘Tinnitus Guidance for GPs’ document which will provide the most up-to-date information on how people suffering with tinnitus can best be helped from diagnosis through to self-help management of the condition. In addition, we are promoting our new online resource which for people newly diagnosed with tinnitus www.takeontinnitus.co.uk. Take on Tinnitus is designed to give facts and ideas for things you can do to manage tinnitus and is an ideal resource for GPs to suggest to new tinnitus patients. Tell us what tinnitus means to you Whether it be positive, negative, indifferent, we want to hear it all. Record the video in landscape mode (hold your phone/camera sideways), and try to keep it to a maximum of 10 seconds. Videos can be uploaded until 4th February, then we will take a selection of them and make a video with a collage of experiences to help raise awareness. By uploading a video, you agree to your video being released to the public. This project is a collaboration between Tinnitus Hub (Tinnitus Talk), American Tinnitus Association and British Tinnitus Association. Thank you to everyone who sent a video over. Your support was appreciated and we will be sharing on social media channels later in the week. Going International If you would like to help us make Tinnitus Awareness Week International, please get in touch. We would love to work together with any other Tinnitus Organisations who would like to be involved. Please just get in touch with Emily Broomhead at email@example.com and we will ensure we highlight and raise awareness of all events taking place in the run up to, and throughout the week. Find out more about how the American Tinnitus Association are getting involved at www.ata.org/TAW2017 Find out more about how Better Hearing Australia are getting involved by visiting: www.tinnitusaustralia.org.au or www.betterhearing.org.au/ Health Professionals If you are a health professional, you can help us raise awareness of tinnitus and the services you provide, by having a prominent display in your department or place of work. A display is great. A staffed information stand is even better because it gives members of the public the opportunity to come and talk. We can provide you with information to give out including leaflets, posters, postcards and balloons. We can also raise awareness of any events through our social media streams, just let us know. If you don’t work in health, you can still help us raise awareness. Putting up a poster or having leaflets available for people to take away. A mention on a company website or in a social media stream, it will all make a huge difference and help us reach more people. You can sign up here http://thndr.me/33TB3Z Support us with a donation – we need to raise half a million pounds each year to continue our UK wide support. Donations can be made on this page - just look to the right. What is a Thunderclap? A Thunderclap is a crowd-speaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of social networks. In the run up to TAW, we want to encourage as many people as possible to sign up and help us show that we are 'Standing Together for Tinnitus'. So please sign up and also if you can share the link with your social media networks and encourage anyone you know who uses social media to sign up to and help us make this work. http://thndr.me/33TB3Z Thank you for your support.
